Sniffle
It has been a busy few weeks. There have been so many appointments at PMH that it seemed like we were living there. Firstly, Matthew’s developmental check-up went well. We are aware that Matthew is behind developmentally, but thankfully, the doctor is not too concerned. We already have physiotherapy, dietetics, occupational therapy, respiratory and speech pathology working with us so any problems are addressed before they become too big. The doctor was happy to know that, according to the World Health Organisation’s chart prescribing healthy weight for a child’s age, Matthew is considered bigger than 10 percent of kids in the world (according to his due date, not birthdate). Yay! All that milk is making my little boy become a big boy.
Matthew also had an Audiology appointment to check up on his Glue Ear. Thankfully, it looks like it is clearing up, especially now that the supplemental oxygen is off during the day and his nasal passages have a chance to recover. The audiologist was concerned that Matthew did not turn towards a flashing light and low frequency noise, but we are not worried because he was more interested in the toy he was looking at instead. As he did not react to the test, the audiologist told me that he may have a small amount of hearing loss. However, I don’t think so because he can hear me whisper to him from across his room. I hope that it means that his hearing is ok.
Matthew also had a check-up on his eyes today. They are looking ok, too. The opthamologist is not concerned with the structure of Matthew’s eyes at this point in time. His eyes have physiologically developed properly, but now we have to wait and see if Matthew will require glasses later in life to read properly or to see things at a distance.
He is still off the oxygen during the day and only requiring the 30mls/ minute at night. He did require some more oxygen on Friday night as he was suffering from a little cold but Matty quickly gets over the sniffles. In fact, he never lets anything get in the way of smiles and giggles.
And here comes the best part… photos
