Happy Saturday

Well, it’s the weekend and we’re all pretty settled in now. Hund’s even settled down considerably, and now seems somewhat indifferent to young Matthew’s presence.
It’s been a pretty good Saturday so far. Matty’s quite active during the days, and loves getting out for some play time…

Snug as a …. Matty

As I type this, Dad is reading Matty his daily dose of Harry Potter. Matty has been keeping us busy today, so it’s nice to have some time to relax. We are getting into the routine of things – medications, feeds, changing diapers and settling his little upsets (usually caused by a dummy that has [...]

Another day in paradise.

Well, that might be a bit extreme.. .but it really is wonderful to have Matty home. Regardless the fact that both Pam and I are running on fumes at the moment… it’s nice that a ‘visit to see Matty’ only takes us across one bedroom, rather than across the suburb.
The little fella sleeps quite well. [...]

Home

Matthew is finally home! After running around like mad chickens this morning getting the last minute supplies, training, appointment set-ups and waiting for the oxygen bottle delivery, we finally took Matthew officially home. Although he will be going back in eventually for his surgery on the stoma and soon for his follow-up appointments, it was [...]

The day that would never come.

And that day is…. tomorrow!
After 201 days (actually 202, if you include tomorrow), Matty comes home triumphant. In fact, after the absolute blitz he did in yesterday’s test, there’s no way they couldn’t send him home. By the way, it was 6 hours off oxygen before they decided to put him back on… and that [...]

Safety… in Air

This is what success looks like. Let me interpret for those who haven’t seen the readout of a pulse oximeter before. The wiggly line has a nice symmetrical appearance which means that it has a good trace. The %SPO2 reading is the current peripheral oxygen saturation in the blood, and the BPM is the heart [...]

The Big Day In

Life is good. You know that life is good when you have your child home, and they’re happy.
We’ve had Matthew home for the day today, and it’s been a really nice day. Even Hund is getting used to the idea of having the little fella around, and has started to behave a bit more.
Mostly today, [...]

Another day in the life of Matty

Well, it’s been a pretty steady day for Matty. I’ve been pretty busy all day, so it wasn’t until late this evening that i was able to go in and see him. Of  course, naturally, when i went to see him, it was time for a colostomy bag change. Nothing like getting your hands dirty.. [...]

Nose Tubes.

It’s not every day that you get to insert a thin plastic tube into another human being’s nose, then push and wiggle it until it reaches that person’s stomach. Then you withdraw whatever fluids you can and ensure that they are at ph4… thereby proving that you’ve successfully placed the tube into the correct location….
Ok, [...]

Wriggles

So Matty has had a pretty uneventful day. The night staff have managed to get Matthew’s oxygen requirements down to 120ml / min, but as usual, the day staff have cranked it up to 180ml /min to keep up with Matthew’s wriggles. As you can see by the video below, in the cute little outfit [...]
