The Feed Team

This morning i was able to catch up with Matthew’s feed team. Yep, that’s right, he has a team of people concerned with all aspects of his nutrition from his sucking, through to his posture whilst doing so. It was pretty good to spend a bit of time with Matthew, and the team all together, [...]

Waiting, waiting…

So I got to chat with the doctors today during their grand rounds. The main topics of conversation were Matthew’s continued improvements, his impressive weight gain, and his stoma closure. I’ll start at the last one, and work my way back. They discussed the operation to reverse Matthew’s stoma, however made the decision that it [...]

All clear

So practically all of Matthew’s test results have come through, and he’s all clear. There’s only a couple of tests that we’re waiting on the results for, but those aren’t serious ones… As a result, Matty’s back out of isolation, and on the move again. This time, back to our old spot on the main [...]

Zeus

A striking similarity, really. Actually, Matty’s not really trying to pose like the mythical greek god of gods, however his armboard used to keep his IV line straight does give him that certain aura…
So, to update on the viral situation. Whilst not 100% in the clear yet, Matty seems to be weathering out this one [...]

In the nursery? almost…

Well, I’ve been in a few times today to see Matty. Tonight, to our surprise, he had been moved to the nursery! The nursery is the last stop before home. What a milestone.. Unfortunately, however, halfway through this blog entry, we got a call from the hospital. Nothing too serious, but i’ll start at the [...]

The turkey is done…

So Matty’s first Christmas is almost over. It’s been a great one. The whole family has been together, and we’ve all had a good time. Santa even brought Matty a whole bunch of pressies that he’ll be enjoying over the next few months and years. Matty’s had a great day. A visit from Santa, each [...]

Merry Christmas!

To everyone out there, Merry Christmas!
Thank you all for your support this year. We’ve been through rough times, and we’ve been through amazing peaks as well. Matthew’s first Christmas has reminded us what it’s all about. Family, sharing, love and being together.
I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas and that you all have a [...]

It was the night before Christmas

And all through the NICU. Not a baby was stirring… well actually, it was pretty loud in there tonight. Matthew however, wasn’t part of the raucous. Whilst others were setting off their alarms or crying loudly, Matty was quietly sleeping and being being a well behaved little boy for Santa.
After waking for a feed at [...]

On the ward again

Continuing his tour of 6B, Matthew today moved back out to the main ward to try the view from another spot. Of course, all this moving requires extra sustenance, so Matthew’s today had his feeds increased by another 5 mls, now totalling 50 mls every 3 hours, for a whopping total of 400mls/day!
Apart from that, [...]

What’s that you say?

Well, it would seem young Matthew won’t need to say that too often, as it would appear his hearing is fine. Yes, that’s right, you heard right, his hearing’s fine. He had a hearing test today and passed with flying colours. It’s really quite interesting how they do it actually. They put some earmuffs onto [...]
