Hiccups

It’s been a pretty smooth weekend. The only hiccups have been these ones:

So, aside from the hiccups, Matthew’s been doing great. Over the last couple of weeks, he’s really started to fill out and start looking like a ‘normal’ baby. Of course, his breathing has been good today, as has his tolerance for his feeds. [...]

Waiting

Some days, I feel like we’re waiting forever. Matthew has been in this world for 114 days now. So far, he’s gotten to see the insides of SCN3 in King Edward Memorial Hospital, the inside of WANTS transport ambulance, and Ward 6B in Princess Margaret Hospital. Tomorrow, we start on book 5 of the Harry [...]

Grumpy little men

Matty’s been pretty grumpy. I guess that’s understandable though, because having a broken leg probably isn’t the most comfortable thing.
He’s been quite unsettled for most of the day, but still holding his stats pretty well. Still cycling between CPAP and PBF, Matthew’s breathing is still doing very well.
We’ve found it quite surprising how quickly he’s [...]

Give me a break.

Well… when Matty thought those words, he probably didn’t mean literally.
Unfortunately.. Matty got his break. In fact, his left femur. Being born early, having lots of drugs (especially diuretics) and a whole heap of other factors, has led young Matthew to a condition called osteopenia of prematurity which has caused his bones to be very [...]

Routine

Matthew seems to be in a bit of a routine. He has his feed… then he settles down a bit.. then he sleeps for a while… then he starts to wriggle.. then the wriggling escalates with little cries.. then the crying starts, and before too long it’s all out flailing and screaming. This routine takes [...]

Silly me

Tonight I was asked by Anthony to put up the blog article because he was going to bed. I assured him I would and then went about my evening – expressing, watching TV and even having a cup of tea. I climbed into bed at about 12:30am and was startled awake again at 1:30am when [...]

Nom Nom Nom

Ok, ok.. i get it.. you guys are more interested in the photos that my ramblings.. so here’s some photos at long last. Sorry it’s taken me a while, i keep forgetting to take the camera along.
So here’s some photos anyway, so you can see how he’s grown up.. and he’s definately done that in [...]

Little Lions

Our little lion (Matty is a leo) today was joined by another little lion. We took in his african animals mobile (those things that hang up…) this afternoon to give him some distraction from all the medical equipment and machinery. Matty continues to do really well today. He put on a lot of water weight [...]

Oops, I did it again…

Matthew is using up the resources at the hospital for his own amusement. He keeps pulling out his OG Tube (Oral-Gastric) that runs from his mouth to his belly. They use it to give him his feeds and to check how well his stomach is tolerating each feed. Our cheeky little man thinks that he [...]

Oedema

Sorry i’m a bit late with this update. Don’t worry, though, because Matty’s doing fine. Yesterday he put on another exhorbitant amount of weight.. but it looks like it’s all extra fluid he’s carrying. This has been causing him a few difficulties with his breathing, etc, so the doctors have put him back onto frusemide [...]
