Peeing on Paeds

Matthew continues to do well this evening. They’ve turned down some of the oscillation settings (eg, mean pressure) and his stats have been quite good. Like last time, he seems to be retaining a lot of fluid whilst on the HFO, a condition called oedema, particularly around his lower belly, groin and legs. Nothing serious, [...]

Hi Matty

Matthew’s much improved this morning. They’ve been able to pull his oxygen down to 48%, and intend on continuing to lower it throughout today. It’s unlikely he’ll get off the HFO today, but maybe tomorrow. Matty would like to say a big hi to everyone following his progress:

Thumb Sucking

Well, this evening Matthew seems to be a lot happier. A days worth of easy breathing on the HFO has done him good and they’ve been able to drop his oxygen down a lot (now around 55%). He seemed quite settled, not his normal octopus-like self and didn’t even get upset at a short black [...]

Breathing. You and I take it for granted.

So we’ve seen Matthew this morning. He’s doing ok on the HFO. He’s still on a lot of oxygen. We did get to have a good chat with the paediatrician about what’s going on and what the course of action should be. It is likely that Matthew has developed a condition called severe respiratory distress [...]

Things that go ring in the night.

With respect to dreams and nightmares, i’m not really like most people. I don’t tend to dream very often, and when i do, i very rarely remember them when i wake up, only if i’m woken directly during that nightmare. Well, last night was kinda like that, except that i woke beforehand. At 0343 i [...]

The Wriggler

Well, not too much to report this morning. Matty was pretty restless all night, but did manage to get a little sleep. His belly, whilst still bloated is looking a little better. Despite knocking around all his sensors and things, his stats were fairly consistent throughout the night. Tonights his last indomethacin treatment (i had [...]

Puffy Little Cheeks

Just got back from visiting Matthew and boy oh boy, was he playing up tonight. Wriggling around, knocking off all his sensors and kicking about. One of the nurses there could sense his discomfort and hats off to her, she really went out of her way to make him more comfortable. She even went so [...]

Nappies and Things

Been to the hospital today. Mum and Dad changed Matthew’s nappy. No number twos, but plenty of number one action. Matthew’s oxygen stats look good today. The attached photo of one of Matthew’s nappies never ceases to amaze me – take a look at the size of the nappy. It barely fits a standard size [...]

No news is good news.

Had a parent night for parents of kids in the SCN (Serious Care Nursery). I tell you what.. milking momma’s boobies is a technical process.
Visited Matty afterwards, nothing much to report really, which is a good thing.

Good Morning Matty!

I went to see Matthew this morning on my way to work. Not much to report, he’s still swinging his oxygen levels around, but all in all seemed quite peaceful and serene. When i got to work, however, there was only a single parking bay left, so it looks like this new Dad is going [...]
